BALTIMORE – The Coppin State men's basketball team is looking to continue its winning ways when it takes on the Chestnut Hill Griffins Monday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex.
It will be the second of three straight home games for the Eagles (1-2 overall). This will also be Coppin State's second consecutive game against an opponent from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
"We need to play with intensity for a full 40 minutes," said head coach
Michael Grant, who is in his second year in charge of the Eagles. "We have to get up and down and build ourselves an early lead. We will not be a successful team playing catch up ball."
Junior forward
Terry Harris Jr., collected his team leading third double-double, in as many games, in Wednesday's victory over Goldey-Beacom. He finished the game with 26 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in 37 minutes. Harris scored 20 of his 26 points after halftime on 9-for-13 accuracy from the field.
Harris is averaging 18.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Leading Coppin State in both categories. He is currently seventh in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in scoring, fourth in rebounding and tied for sixth in steals with fellow junior guard
Trevon Seymore.
Seymore has been contributing in all areas of the court. He is averaging 4.3 points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals per game. Seymore is tied for third in the MEAC in assists, tied for seventh in assist to turnover ratio.
Junior guard
Christian Kessee is averaging 16.0 points per contest and shooting a team best 80% from the charity stripe. He has provided a steady dose of scoring and outside shooting for the Eagles so far this season.
Juniors
James Sylvester and
Joshua Treadwell have been turning in strong performances and establishing themselves as consistent playmakers for Coppin State.
Sylvester leads the MEAC in 3-point field goal percentage, is sixth in assist to turnover ratio, seventh in assists and offensive rebounding while being tied for 20th in rebounding.
Treadwell is averaging 8.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest. He is also shooting 87.5% from the free throw line, good for 10th in the MEAC.
Chestnut Hill (1-2) is coming off of an 82-81 loss to Lincoln University on Wednesday night despite 23 points from Luke Dickson, who has scored at least 20 points in every game this season. He is averaging 22.7 points, 4.3 rebounds per game and at least four made 3-pointers per game.
Sophomore guard Demetrius Isaac is adding 17.3 points and 5.7 assists per contest.
Overall, Grant was proud of how his team battled their way back from a 15-point deficit and dug deep for an 80-73 win against Goldey-Beacom.
"We can't be out there going through the motions," Grant said. "It's going to take a total team effort. We have to continue to keep our pace, play within our system and find ways to come up with easier shots for one another."
