BALTIMORE – After spending the weekend logging miles on the road, the Coppin State men's basketball team is excited for the opportunity to play in familiar surroundings.
The Eagles (0-2) play their home opener Wednesday afternoon against Division II Goldey-Beacom College Lightning (0-2) at 12:00 p.m. It will be "School Day", the first on many home-themed games this season. Several students from local elementary will be present for the game.
Coppin State defeated Goldey-Beacom 103-50 in last season's matchup behind a barrage of 15 3-pointers.
It will be the first of three straight home games for Coppin State, with the next two games against Chestnut Hill College (Nov. 23) and Towson (Nov.28).
During the Eagles weekend road trip junior forward
Terry Harris Jr., recorded back-to-back double-doubles averaging 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Harris set career highs in points (16) and rebounds (11) in Sunday's loss at Iowa. His effort has Coppin State ranked second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in rebounding.
Junior guard
Christian Kessee is averaging a team best 16.5 points per game. Kessee scored a season high 18 points in Friday's loss to Eastern Kentucky (EKU). He made three 3-pointers against Iowa, the 14th time in his career he has made at least two 3-pointers in a single game.
Junior guard
James Sylvester poured in 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds against EKU. While junior forward Josh Treadwell nearly got himself a double-double scoring 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds against Iowa.
Goldey-Beacom started the season with two losses at the Delaware Express Tip-Off Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Both losses were by seven or less.
For the season, the Lightning has been led by Shakeem Wilson's 17.5 points per game average. He scored a season high 18 points against New York Tech on Saturday night. Corey Taite is averaging 16 points and five assists in two games this year.
The Eagles will return to action next Monday night November 23 at 7:30 p.m. when the Chestnut Hill Griffins pay a visit to the Physical Education Complex. ?Goldey-Beacom and Chestnut Hill are members of the same conference, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
