NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Carl Drakes has been named the MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. This is the first time this season that Drakes has received the award and he is the third different Eagles sprinter to receive the honor joining
Solomon Hammond and
Cole Schlotterbeck.
A senior from Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia, Drakes placed second in the 60m dash at Indoor Pre-Nationals last weekend in a time of 6.74, which ranks third in the MEAC this season. Drakes also took seventh in the 200m dash at 21.58.
The Eagles return to the track for the MEAC Championships on February 22-23 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
