NORFOLK, Va. – Leading the Coppin State volleyball to three more wins last week,
Eva Rovello was named the MEAC Setter of the Week while
Coco Figueroa received Defensive Player of the Week honors, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
This is the fourth weekly honor for Rovello this year, the third time receiving it for the setter position while Figueroa is taking it home for the second time this season and the ninth of her career.
A junior from Vigneux de Bretagne, France, Rovello averaged 10.08 assists and 2.58 digs while adding seven aces and orchestrating the Eagles attack to a .304 hitting percentage. Rovello opened the week with a double-double 45 assists and team-high 17 digs to go with five digs in a thrilling victory over Loyola Maryland. She followed up with 33 assists and three aces in a sweep at South Carolina State before closing out with 43 assists, nine digs and three aces in a win at NC Central.
Rovello leads the MEAC with 9.44 assists/set and eight double-doubles while ranking tenth with 2.25 digs/set. Offensively, she's added a team-high 27 aces (4
th in MEAC) with 64 kills on .373 hitting while quarterbacking Coppin's offense to a league-high .240 hitting percentage. Rovello also ranks third on the Eagles with 43 blocks and her 689 assists are the third-most in the Nation.
Figueroa averaged 4.67 digs/set last week and went over the 1,500 career dig mark to increase her season average to a league-high 4.25 digs per set. A senior from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Figueroa tallied 12 digs with seven assists in the win over Loyola Maryland before going for 18 digs and 26 digs in victories at South Carolina State and NC Central, respectively.
The 5-foot-5 libero ranks third in CSU history with 1,528 career digs and fourth with 137 aces. Figueroa is also fifth in MEAC history in career digs with a pair of former Eagles ahead of her in all-time leader
Ashley Roman ('23) and
Gabrielle Otero ('14). Her 310 digs this season are the ninth-most in the Nation and her career total is the eighth among active players.
Coppin (13-5, 4-0 MEAC) has won 12-straight matches and hosts Maryland Eastern Shore at 6 pm on Friday, October 9 before heading to Delaware State at 1 pm on Sunday, October 11. Both matches will air on the MEAC Network.
