BALTIMORE – The Coppin State volleyball team made history Tuesday night, rallying for a thrilling 3-2 victory over Loyola Maryland (23-25, 25-21, 25-12, 21-25, 15-11) at the Physical Education Complex Arena.

With the victory, the Eagles improved to 11-5 overall and extended their winning streak to 10 consecutive matches, matching the program record for longest winning streak.

Ivanna Luna powered the Eagles offensively with a career-high 18 kills, hitting .444 on 36 attacks while adding six digs and two blocks. 

Cherisse Atilano also delivered a standout performance, recording a season-high 17 kills on 42 attacks while hitting .286. She added nine digs and finished with 19.0 points.

Coppin State's offense finished with 64 kills and a .281 hitting percentage, while the Eagles held a 12-2 advantage in total blocks.

Kendall Minta added seven kills, while Kayden Cupid contributed six kills with six blocks and Deviana Walker finished with five kills and six digs.

Setter Eva Rovello orchestrated the offense with 45 assists and a team-high 17 digs while adding five kills on nine attempts and hitting .556. Coco Figueroa anchored the back row with 12 digs, while Andrea Cintron added eight digs to go with three aces.

The Eagles controlled the middle portion of the match, taking the third set 25-12 after splitting the opening two frames. Loyola forced a decisive fifth set by taking the fourth, but Coppin State answered when it mattered most, closing out the victory 15-11.

The Eagles will return to action Friday, Oct. 2 at South Carolina State as they continue MEAC play.
