Softball Picked 6th in MEAC Preseason Poll; Trio Named to Preseason Teams

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's softball team was picked to finish sixth in the MEAC Preseason Poll, and a trio of Eagles were selected to the Preseason All-Conference Team, it was announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon. The Preseason Poll and the All-MEAC Teams were voted on by the league's eight head coaches and sports information directors.
 
Outfielder Aniyah Haley and third baseman Julianna Mejia were selected to the First Team while outfielder Giselle Ulloa received Second Team recognition.
 
Howard received 12 first place votes and was named the Preseason favorite, followed by Delaware State, Norfolk State, NC Central, South Carolina State, Coppin, Morgan State and Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
A senior from Indianapolis, Ind., Haley was a Second Team All-MEAC selection in 2025 after earning All-Tournament Team honors in 2024. Haley hit .326 last season while leading the Eagles in doubles (10), extra-base hits (12), walks (12), and on-base percentage (.409) while scoring 20 runs and stealing six bases. In MEAC play, Haley hit a team-high .354 to go with a team-high 18 runs and six doubles.
 
Mejia earned All-Conference honors for the second-straight season in 2025, hitting .326 with six doubles, a triple and 14 RBI. A junior from Lincoln Heights, Calif., Mejia tied for a team-high 12 walks and led the Eagles with seven sacrifice hits. In MEAC play, Mejia hit .317 with four doubles, a triple and 11 RBI.
 
Ulloa led Coppin with a .337 batting average to go with a team-high 23 runs, 50 total bases, .510 slugging percentage and 11 stolen bases. A junior from Norco, Calif., Ulloa added three doubles, four triples, a pair of home runs and 17 RBI while hitting .313 in conference play.
 
The Eagles open the 2026 season at the Third Annual Leonard Moody HBCU Collegiate Invitational in Covington, Ga., on February 13-15. Coppin takes on North Carolina A&T and Florida A&M to open the weekend, followed by Alcorn State and Alabama A&M on Saturday and Claflin on Sunday.
