CHICAGO –
Yasmin Burrell, an incoming freshman for the Coppin State softball team, has been named 2024-25 Gatorade District of Columbia Softball Player of the Year. This was announced by the organization late last month.
Burrell led St. John's College High School to three-straight DCSAA championships and won back-to-back DCSAA Player of the Year awards. She was named the Tournament MVP in each of the last two seasons, was a three-time WCAC First Team selection, and received Washington Post All-Met honors the last two seasons.
This past season en route to earning First Team All-Met accolades, Burrell batted .512 with 34 runs scored, 431 RBI and 10 doubles, with a slugging percentage of 1.000. As a junior, Burrell won the 2024 Jenny Finch Empowerment Award, which acknowledges young softball players who demonstrate qualities such as leadership, dedication, motivation, and more.
Off the field, Burrell has contributed tremendously to her community and is a grade student in the classroom. She has volunteered as part of leadership programs through the Washington Urban League, through her church and as an athletic trainer's aide.
