NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Solomon Hammond has been named the MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon. This is the first time that Hammond has received a Weekly award from the MEAC.
A senior from Kumasi, Ghana, Hammond won the 60m dash at the Penn State National Open, clocking in with a time of 6.65, breaking a school-record previously held by Olympians Joseph Amoah and
Joseph Manu. Hammond also placed fifth in the 200m dash, finishing with a time of 21.31 seconds.
Hammond's time of 6.65 leads the MEAC and ranks 34
th nationally. He also sits second in the conference in the 200m with a season-best time of 21.25 at the KPMG HBCU Showcase.
The Eagles are back on the track this weekend, sending squads to both the Crimson Elite Invitational at Harvard University and Boston University's Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invite.
