Andrew Betton Named MEAC Track & Field Athlete of the Week

| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Andrew Betton has been named the MEAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Thursday.  This is the first weekly award that Betton has ever received from the MEAC.

A senior from Kingston, Jamaica finished second in the heptathlon at the Harvard Crimson Elite last weekend, scoring a school-record 5,114 points which shattered Brandon Miles' old mark of 4,389 points from February 12, 2009. He closed the opening day by clearing 2.04m in the high jump, a height that ranks second in the MEAC this season.  He also placed third in the 1,000m (2:49.03) while claiming fourth place efforts in both the 60m (7.19) and 60m hurdles (8.48).

Betton's 5,114 points is the most by any MEAC athlete since 2017 and he's the only MEAC athlete to break the 5,000-point mark since.  He now ranks third all-time in the MEAC record book in the heptathlon.

The MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held on February 23-24 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
