CARY, N.C. – Humed Nura placed 12
th overall to lead the Coppin State cross country teams at the MEAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at WakeMed Park. Both CSU teams placed eighth in their respective team standings.
A junior from Baltimore, Nura clocked a huge PR, finishing the 8K (5-mile) course in 25:48.6, besting his old mark in the 8K by over a minute and a half. Nura is the first CSU cross country runner to earn All-MEAC honors since
Amadou Ba did so with a 10
th place finish in 2021. His time is the best by a CSU runner at MEAC's since 2006 when
Anthony Littlejohn took fourth overall in 25:39.7.
Asa Francis and
Etiam Torgbenu came in next for Coppin at 27:43.6 and 28:12.4, respectively, which were good for 28
th and 33
rd overall.
Rounding out the competitors for CSU were freshmen
Rashawn Harris (31:08.1) and
Xavier Grant (37:53.2) who were running the 8K for the first time.
On the women's side,
Gifty Oku led the way with a 41
st-place finish in 24:13.9. She was followed up by
Tracey Riley (24:27.7),
Kyah La Fortune (25:15.5),
Danielle Wooten (25:26.0) and
Chase Cineas (26:21.5).
Karima Davenport-White also finished in 26:48.6.
