COLMAR MANOR, Md. – Humed Nura finished fourth overall to lead the Coppin State men's cross country team to a fourth place finish at the Howard Bison Invite on Saturday at Colmar Manor Park.
A junior from Baltimore, Nura completed the 5K in 16:05.5, averaging 5:10.7 per mile and edging out a pair of runners from Delaware State. Nura has finished in the top five in each race this season with a pair of meet titles along with a runner-up performance.
Asa Francis placed 12
th overall in 16:58.4, followed by
Whisper Shikwa in 17:52.9,
Elijah Hicks in 18:26.8 and
Etiam Torgbenu in 19:14.7.
In the team standings, Howard edged out Delaware State for first, followed by Maryland Eastern Shore in third and the Eagles in fourth. Goucher and Bowie State took fifth and sixth, respectively.
Tracey Riley led the women's team to a sixth place finish, finishing in 24:18.3.
Gifty Oku (25:02.9),
Halutie Hor (25:11.9) and
Kyah La Fortune (25:49.6) followed shortly after.
Danielle Wooten rounded out the scorers for the Eagles with a huge improvement time of 27:52.5.
Also, competing were
Chase Cineas (28:04.3) and
Karima Davenport-White (28:25.1).
Coppin will compete at the MEAC Championships in Cary, N.C., on Saturday, November 1. The women's 5K race will start at 11:00 am, followed by the men's 8K race at 12:00 pm.
