Women’s Hoops Picked Sixth in MEAC Preseason Poll

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's women's basketball team has been picked to finish sixth in the league standings, it was announced on Wednesday at MEAC Women's Basketball Media Day on Wednesday morning.  All awards and the preseason poll were voted on by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
 
The Eagles are coming off a WNIT appearance and are now under the leadership of head coach Darrell Mosley who welcomes an NCAA-leading 14 newcomers this season.  Mosley spent the last three seasons as an assistant/associate head coach at Arizona State and served six seasons as the head coach at Lincoln (Pa.) where he won 82 games and was the 2020 CIAA Coach of the Year. The year between Lincoln and ASU, Mosley was an assistant coach at Delaware where he helped the Blue Hens win a CAA Title.
 
Finishing just behind Coppin in the Predicted Order of Finish was Delaware State and South Carolina State.  Howard received ten of 16 first-place votes to earn the top spot, and was followed by Norfolk State, Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina Central and Morgan State.
 
Among the featured new players on the revamped Eagles roster are seniors Khila Morris (Troy) and Jahcelyn Hartfield (North Texas).  The duo is among seven NCAA Division I transfers along with Skylar Barnes (Southeast Missouri State), Sydney Burris (UNC Asheville), Jada Collins (Tennessee State), Shanaii Gamble (LIU) and Paris McBride (Morehead State).  Other transfers include Patricia Sosa Lora (Xavier-La.) and Erin Henry (Wabash Valley College) as well as five true freshman.
 
CSU opens the season at Arizona State on November 3 in one at least eight games against Power Conference programs. The Eagles' home opener is scheduled for November 6 against Lincoln (Pa.) and they will also host Marshall (Dec. 3), Sacred Heart (Dec. 6) and 2024 National Champions, South Carolina on January 18.
