NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Khila Morris was named the MEAC Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Year, and also earned First Team All-Conference honors, it was announced by the league office at the BBT Awards Show on Tuesday night. Morris is the first CSU player to be named MEAC Newcomer of the Year and the Eagles have had at least one athlete named to the All-MEAC First Team in three-straight seasons.
A senior from Bronx, N.Y., Morris averaged a team-high 12.9 points to go with 4.4 rebounds along with 90 assists, 51 steals which also led the team, and 12 blocks. Morris shot 41.6% from the floor, 33.3% from deep and 69.5% from the line. In conference play, Morris upped her production to 14.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Morris finished the regular season ranked fourth in the MEAC in scoring, fifth in assists, sixth in both field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage, ninth in steals and first in minutes.
Reaching double figures in 21 games, Morris was a three-time MEAC Player of the Week with five games with at least 20 points. Morris put up a career-high 26 points and 13 rebounds in a last-second victory at Delaware State and recorded at least four assists in ten games.
The Eagles earned the fourth seed in the MEAC Tournament and will face #5 N.C. Central in the Quarterfinals on Thursday, March 12. Tipoff from Norfolk Scope Arena is set for 12 pm on ESPN+.
