NORFOLK, Va. – Asa Francis won the 800m and the 4x100m Relay was also victorious as the Coppin State men's track & field team competed in the final day of the MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles finished fourth in the team standings with (95 points).
The 4x100m Relay of
Carl Drakes, Solomon Hammond, Noxroy Wright and
Cole Schlotterbeck earned the gold in 39.58. The quartet held off Howard at the finish and now rank 16
th in the East Region.
The Eagles scored 21 total points in the 800m with Francis defeating all competitors in 1:53.00, defending his indoor championship in the event.
Jayeed Norbal took third in 1:53.28 while
Etiam Torgbenu finished fourth in 1:54.59.
Hammond also medaled in both the 100m and 200m dash, placing second in the 100m in 10.07 and third in the 200m (20.82). He now ranks eighth in the East Region in the 100m and his time is third-fastest in school history behind a pair of times by Olympian
Joseph Amoah. His 200m time is also third in school history.
Drakes took third in the 400m in 47.05 before coming back shortly after and taking fifth in the 200m (20.93). Drakes now ranks fifth in CSU history in the 200m and eighth in the 400.
Wright finished sixth in both the 100m (10.48) and 200m dash (21.01). He ranks sixth in school history in the 200m.
Wrapping up the meet, the 4x400m Relay of
Jarrett Gentles, Norbal, Torgbenu and Francis took third in 3:10.79.
Andrew Betton also scored for the Eagles, taking seventh in the pole vault by clearing 3.67m (12' 0.25").

Humed Nura finished 12
th in the 5,000m to open the day, covering the 12.5 laps in 16:57.48.
