Solomon Hammond Advances to NCAA Quarterfinal in 100m Dash

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coppin State's Solomon Hammond automatically qualified for the NCAA Men's & Track & Field Quarterfinals in the 100m dash with his performance in the first round of the NCAA East Prelims on Wednesday night at the University of Kentucky's Track & Field Complex.
 
A junior from Ghana, Hammond took second in his heat, battling a strong headwind (-3.0) to a time of 10.33.  Hammond finished just behind T'Mars McCallum of Tennessee who finished in 10.27 while Florida State's Ismael Kone (10.43) earned the other automatic spot.
 
The top time on the day was 10.24, clocked by Auburn's Kanyinsola Ajayi.
 
Hammond, who will also run in the 4x100m Relay on Friday at 5:00 pm, will be in Lane 7 of Heat 1 during Friday's Quarterfinal of the 100m dash at 6:35 pm.  All races will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
The top 12 individuals and relays will qualify for the NCAA Championships at University of Oregon on June 5-8 with the top three from each heat, plus the next three fastest times.
