BALTIMORE – Coppin State's
Noxroy Wright, Jarrett Gentles and
James Bell all won individual events as did the 4x100m Relay as the Eagles took second in the team standings at the Morgan State Legacy on Saturday.
Wright led a large contingent of Eagles in the 200m dash and took first overall in 20.93 which is the third-fastest time in the MEAC this season. His mark is also the fourth-fastest in Coppin State history. Wright also finished fourth in the 100m dash in 10.49 which cracks the school's all-time top ten list.
Gentles won the 400m hurdles in a personal-record time of 52.53, the third-fastest time in the MEAC this season. Gentles, who ran the 200m dash in 21.83, also ran the third leg, and Wright the first leg, of the 4x100m Relay that was victorious in 40.31 alongside
Carl Drakes and
Solomon Hammond.
Bell won the high jump by clearing 2.00m (6' 6.75") on his first attempt.
Hammond took second overall, and first among collegiate athletes in the 100m dash (10.32) after clocking a MEAC-best 10.22 in the prelims. He also finished fourth overall in the 200m dash in 21.09. Drakes finished just behind him in the 200m in 21.21 to take fifth.
A trio of Eagles scored in the 800m Run with
Asa Francis leading the way with a second-place finish in 1:53.74.
Etiam Torgbenu took fourth in 1:55.14, just ahead of
Jayeed Norbal in sixth at 1:55.69.
Daniel Cunningham matched Francis with a second-place finish in the 400m dash in 46.72, and he also took eighth in the 200m (21.46).
Also scoring points for the Eagles were
Alexander Dobson-Honablue and
Amiri Goode in the javelin. Dobson-Honablue took fifth with a toss of 51.40m (168' 7") while Goode placed eighth in 43.11m (141' 5"). The duo had a busy afternoon as Dobson-Honablue also competed in the 100m dash (11.08) and 200m dash (22.56). Goode ran a 15.58 in the 110m hurdles and leaped 6.26m (20' 6.50") in the long jump.
Andrew Betton took sixth in the jump, clearing 1.85m (6' 0.75") while running a 15.94 in the 110m hurdles.
Cole Schlotterbeck doubled in the 100m (10.88) and 200m (22.21) and
Humed Nura finished the 1,500m in 4:24.33.
The Eagles return to the track at the historic Penn Relays on April 25-27 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
