Men’s 4x100m Relay Takes 6th at Texas Relays; Bell, Norbal Win Events at Towson Invite

AUSTIN, Texas – Coppin State's men's track & field team sent split squads to the Texas Relays and the Towson Invitational over the weekend and got impressive performances at both venues.
 
Highlighting the weekend was the 4x400m relay of Carl Drakes, Daniel Cunningham, Jarrett Gentles and Asa Francis taking sixth overall in 3:10.22. Earning the final qualifying spot, the Eagles bested teams from Texas and Lamar while being edged by UTSA, Purdue, Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh and Cal St.-Fullerton.
 
Solomon Hammond and Drakes clocked a 10.26 and 10.30, respectively, in the 100m dash, with Noxroy Wright following in 10.49. Gentles took ninth overall in the 400m hurdles (53.59) and Francis finished the 800m in 1:52.50.
 
Earlier in the week, the 4x100m Relay of Wright, Drakes, Gentles and Hammond took 15th overall in a season-best time of 40.37.
 
James Bell won the high jump (6' 6") and Jayeed Norbal took the 400m dash (48.76) to lead Coppin's team at the Towson Invitational. In those same events, Andrew Betton fourth in the high jump by clearing 6' 2.75." Etiam Torgbenu (49.66), Cole Schlotterbeck (51.77) and Alexander Dobson-Honablue (52.34) also competed in the 400m dash. Torgbenu doubled up in the 200m dash (22.38) while Dobson Honablue took fifth in the javelin (130' 2").
 
Also doubling up were Amiri Goode in the 100m (11.73) and 110m hurdles (15.29) and Humed Nura in the 800m (2:09.49) and 1,500m (4:21.96).
 
The Eagles will compete at the South Florida Invitational in Tampa on Friday-Saturday, April 5-6.
