BOSTON, Mass. – Solomon Hammond won the 60m dash, and, both he and
Carl Drakes ran the MEAC's fastest times in the 200m dash this season at Boston University's Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday.
A junior from Ghana, Hammond took gold in the 60m dash in 6.70 after clocking the top preliminary time of 6.76 earlier in the day. Hammond also took sixth overall in the 200m dash in 21.30, just behind Drakes who finished fourth in 21.22. The duo now rank 1-2 in the MEAC in the event this season. Drakes ran a preliminary time of 6.92 in the 60m with
Cole Schlotterbeck in 7.09.
Drakes started off the 4x400m Relay to a second-place finish in 3:11.28, where
Jarrett Gentles,
Daniel Cunningham and
Asa Francis followed him. Hammond led the 'B' relay to a 3:19.22 along with
Etiam Torgbenu,
Alexander Dobson-Honablue and Schlotterbeck.
Gentles clocked a season-best time of 48.23, leading a trio of Eagles in the 400m dash. Cunningham covered the two laps in 48.66 with Dobson-Honablue after in 50.30.
Francis,
Jayeed Norbal and Torgbenu also competed in the 800m Run. Francis finished in 1:53.84 with Norbal seeing a significant season-best time of 1:54.96, ranking fourth in the MEAC. Torgbenu crossed the finish in 2:01.41.
Making his season debut,
James Bell took fourth in the high jump, clearing 2.01m (6' 7.0").
Also, in the 200m dash, Schlotterbeck finished in 22.11, Dobson-Honablue in 22.36 and
Anthony Harris in 23.10. Harris also finished the 60m hurdles in 8.79 with
Amiri Goode just behind in 8.96.
