NEW YORK, N.Y. – Coppin State's men's track & field team's weekend was capped off by a victory by the 4x400m Relay at the 116
th Millrose Games on Sunday afternoon at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory.
The Eagles led from start to finish in the relay and finished with a time of 3:17.18, besting Fordham by over 2.5 seconds. Making up the relay was
Carl Drakes, Jarrett Gentles, Daniel Cunningham and
Asa Francis with Drakes opening with a 48.73 split, the fastest of any competitor.
CSU also competed at the Fastrack National Invitational in Staten Island on Friday and got individual victories by
Solomon Hammond in the 200m dash (21.31) and
Jeff Hammond in the long jump (7.32m; 24' 0.25").
Solomon Hammond also took second, and first among collegiate runners in the 60m dash (6.72) and helped the 4x400m relay to a victory in 3:20.32 along with
Etiam Torgbenu, Alexander Dobson-Honablue and
Cole Schlotterbeck.
Noxroy Wright was runner-up to
Solomon Hammond in the 200m dash in 21.53, followed by Gentles (21.87), Schlotterbeck (21.94) and Dobson-Honablue (22.40).
Torgbenu turned in an impressive time in the 800m Run, clocking in at 1:54.79, good for the fourth fastest time in the MEAC this season. In the middle-distance events,
Humed Nura doubled up the in the Mile (4:38.42) and 3,000m Run (9:07.55) with
Jayeed Norbal just behind Nura in the Mile at 4:39.64.
Gearing up for his relay performance at the Millrose Games, Francis finished the 400m dash on Friday in 49.29, just ahead of Dobson-Honablue (50.72).
Amiri Goode also crossed the finish of the 60m hurdles in 8.91.
CSU will compete at the MEAC Championships on February 18-20 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
