NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Asa Francis was named the MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon. This is the first weekly award from the MEAC that Francis has received in his career.
A junior from Castries, Saint Lucia, Francis turned in an exception effort at the season opening Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational, hosted by St. John's this past weekend. Francis won the 1,000m in 2:30.36 and closed the meet by running a leg of the victorious 4x400m Relay that finished in 3:18.12.
Francis is the defending MEAC Champion in the 800m, winning the conference title in the event during both the 2024 indoor and outdoor season. He also anchored the 4x400m to a school-record and the indoor conference crown.
The Eagles have a month before returning to the track on January 10-11 for the Carolina Challenge, hosted by the University of South Carolina.
