TOWSON, Md. – Asa Francis finished fourth overall to lead the Coppin State men's cross country team to a team title at the Coach Caslin Classic, hosted by Goucher College on Friday afternoon. On the women's side, the Eagles took third of four full teams with
Halutie Hor pacing the squad.
Francis covered the 8K (5-mile) course in 28:50.36, shaving over a minute and a half off his time at the same course this time last year.
Etiam Torgbenu finished in 29:24.11, good for seventh overall.
Abdul Razak finished in 31:04.51, followed by
Dentry Mortimer in his collegiate cross country debut at 31:51.67. Finishing 21
st and 22, respectively, were
Jayeed Norbal (34:24.76) and
Amiri Goode (34:47.33).
Cole Schlotterbeck also competed and crossed the finish in 40:43.73.
Hor covered the women's 6K course in 31:10.36 to finish 13
th overall to lead the women's team.
Kimani Alphonse,
Kyah La Fortune and
Karima Davenport-White came in at 18
th, 19
th, and 20
th overall with 24 seconds between the trio.
Gifty Oku finished in 34:52.91, good for 22
nd place.
Coppin will return to action on Friday, October 18 at Howard's Bison Invitational at Kenilworth Park in Washington, D.C.
