PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Coppin State men's cross country team turned in a dominant performance Saturday at the UMES Invitational, capturing first place in the 8K team competition with 29 points.
The Eagles placed five runners among the top 10 overall finishers to cruise to the team title, finishing ahead of Morgan State (53 points), host Maryland Eastern Shore (56) and Lincoln (Pa.) (83). Coppin's five scoring runners averaged out to 28:40 per runner.
Lucky Maila paced the Eagles with a third-place overall finish, completing the 8K (5-mile) course in 26:48.4 with an average mile pace of 5:23.5.
Humed Nura followed closely behind in fourth place at 27:40.2, while
Asa Francis placed fifth overall with a time of 28:12.8.
The Eagles continued their strong showing with
Etiam Torgbenu finishing seventh overall in 29:46.6 and freshman
Aaiden Clark rounding out Coppin State's scoring five with a 10th-place finish in 30:55.1.
Coppin State also received a strong performance from freshman
Elijah Collins, who finished 18th overall in 32:55.4.
CSU will have off the next two weekends before the WCU Golden Ram Open on October 10.
