NEWARK, Del. – Humed Nura and
Asa Francis came in back-to-back to lead the Coppin State men's cross country team to a third-place team finish at its season opening Delaware Invitational at White Clay Park on Friday morning. On the women's side, the Eagles finished eighth while being led by
Sarahi Paulino-Martinez.
Nura and Francis finished 12
th and 13
th, respectively, out of 77 runners, finishing the 6K race in times of 21:36.6 and 21.43.0. Just over a minute later,
Etiam Torgbenu clocked in at 21
st overall with
Elijah Hicks and
Whisper Shikwa rounding out the top five for the Eagles.
Xavier Grant also competed, covering the course in 27:25.8.
Paulino-Martinez placed 58
th out of nearly 100 runners, finishing the 5K in 25:45.9.
Gifty Oku finished just over a minute later with
Kimora Grant,
Chase Cineus and
Bridget Annan also coming in.
The Eagles return to action on Friday, September 11 for the Delaware State Invitational in Smyrna, Del., at the DSU Outreach & Research Center.
