NEW YORK, N.Y. – A trio of Coppin State men's sprinters clocked impressive times in both the 60m and 500m dash at the KPMG HBCU Showcase at the Armory Track & Field Center on Saturday.
Jarrett Gentles, Etiam Torgbenu and
Daniel Cunningham finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 500m dash with Gentles leading the way in 1:03.96. Torgbenu clocked a 1:05.10, followed by
Daniel Cunningham in 1:05.97.
In the 60m dash,
Solomon Hammond took third in 6.73 after running the event's top preliminary time in 6.70.
Carl Drakes and
Noxroy Wright also scored in the finals after running preliminary times of 6.82 and 6.84, respectively.
Cole Schlotterbeck also competed in the event, finishing in 7.07 along with a 22.41 in the 200m.
Asa Francis took 10
th overall in the 800m while
Humed Nura doubled up in the Mile (4:41.82) and 3,000m (9:23.70).
Jayeed Norbal covered the Mile in 4:46.70.
Anthony Harris ran the 60m hurdles in 8.77 while
Alexander Dobson-Honablue finished the 400m dash in 51.68.
The Eagles ran a pair of 4x400m Relays with the 'A' Team of Drakes, Wright,
Rashaun Stewart and Gentles finishing second in 3:18.15. Taking fourth was the 'B' squad of
Myles Small, Cunningham, Torbenu and Francis in 3:19.61.
Coppin returns to the track on January 19-20 for the Carolina Challenge, hosted by the University of South Carolina.
