JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Coppin State's
James Bell just missed out on qualifying for the NCAA National Championships as he finished 23
rd overall in the high jump at the NCAA East Prelims on Friday at Hodges Stadium.
A junior from Newark, N.J., Bell cleared 2.04m (6' 8.25) inches, placing sixth in his flight. Entering the competition at 1.99m (6' 6.25"), Bell cleared the mark on his second attempt before sailing over the bar in his first attempt at 2.04m. Bell was unable to clear the following height 2.09m (6' 10.25") which would have qualified him for Nationals.
On the women's side,
Latifa Ali will run in Saturday's quarterfinals of the 400m dash, which can be watched live on ESPN+ at 6:50 pm. Ali will be in heat one with the top three finishers in each heat automatically qualifying for the National Championships. The next three fastest times will also advance.
