NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's men's track & field team picked up a pair of silver medals as
Amadou Ba (800m),
James Bell (high jump) and
Amiri Goode (decathlon) took second in their events at the MEAC Championships, hosted by Norfolk State at their Dick Price Stadium this week. The Eagles finished 6th of eight teams with 61 points.
Bell cleared 2.01m (6' 7") in the high jump to take second with Ba finishing the 800m Run in 1:51.95. Over two days, Goode scored a personal-record 5,513 points in the decathlon which is the third-best total in school history.
Ba also anchored the 4x400m Relay to a second-place finish in season-best 3:09.58, following
Carl Drakes,
Daniel Cunningham and
Randy Serville. This was the fifth-fastest time in school history.
Ba led a trio of Eagles in the 800m with
Jayeed Norbal taking third in 1:54.31, just ahead of
Asa Francis in fifth (1:54.87).
Etiam Torgbenu covered the 800m prelims earlier in the week in 1:58.07.
Opening the final day was the 4x100m Relay of
Bryce Pepukayi, Solomon Hammond, Rashaun Stewart and Drakes who took third in a season-best 40.05. Hammond also scored in the 200m dash (21.62) with a seventh-place finish.
Earning fourth place finishes were Cunningham in the 400m dash (47.31) and
Ivan Wiggins-Ingram in the 400m hurdles (53.99) with
Anthony Harris also scoring in the event with a time of 1:00.40. Harris recorded a 14.93 in the 110m hurdles earlier in the week.
In preliminaries throughout the week, Drakes took 10
th overall in the 100m dash (10.48) while clocking a 21.81 in the 200m dash. Hammond edged out Drakes with a 10.47 in the 100m dash.
Cole Schlotterbeck finished the 100m dash in 11.00, followed by
Noxroy Wright in 11.10.
Myles Small just missed out on qualifying in the 400m dash in 48.56, followed by Serville (48.90) and Pepukayi (49.86).
Bell also competed in the long jump and leaped 6.53m (21' 5.25").
Select athletes will compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championships later this week in Fairfax, Va., on the campus of George Mason University.
