BALTIMORE – Carl Drakes won the 200m dash,
Solomon Hammond recorded a pair of second-place finishes and the duo led the 4x100m Relay to gold as the Coppin State men's track & field team at the MSU Legacy on Saturday at Hughes Stadium.
Drakes took the 200m dash in 21.11, just ahead of Hammond in 21.27 who was the top collegiate runner in the 100m dash (10.36) behind former CSU sprinter and Olympian Joseph Amoah (10.10). Drakes also took fourth in the 100m dash (10.54).
Drakes and Hammond ran the first two legs of the 4x100m Relay which took first in 40.47, with
Rashaun Stewart and
Noxroy Wright finishing up. Wright also took fifth in the 200m dash (21.54) and sixth in the 100m dash (10.59).
Asa Francis and
Jayeed Norbal took second and third, respectively, in the 800m Run in times of 1:56.05 and 1:57.08. Also competing in the event was
Randy Serville (2:01.48) and
Amadou Ba (2:01.88).
Daniel Cunningham (47.63) and Stewart (47.83) led a group of five Eagles in the 400m dash while
Ivan Wiggins-Ingram took fourth in the 400m hurdles (54.22).
James Bell leaped a season-best 6.83m (22' 5") in the long jump to finish sixth.
Anthony Harris and
Amiri Goode doubled up in the hurdles events with Harris finishing in 15.03 and 56.28, respectively. Goode clocked 15.72 and 57.82 and leaped 5.81m (19' 0.75") in the long jump.
Cole Schlotterbeck doubled up in the 100m dash (11.02) and 200m dash (22.82) and ran the second leg of the 4x100m Relay that finished in 42.74. Joining him on the relay was
Bryce Pepukayi, Myles Small and
Jeremiah McCowan. Pepukayi finished the 200m dash in 21.86 while Small (49.75),
Etiam Torgbenu (50.70) and McCowan (52.15) competed in the 400m dash.
The Eagles will compete at the 127
th Penn Relays on April 27-29.
