NORFOLK, Va. – Both relays squads were victorious and
James Bell once again won the high jump as Coppin State's men's track & field team took part in the NSU Invitational on Saturday.
To open the day, the quartet of
Carl Drakes, Solomon Hammond, Rashaun Stewart and
Cole Schlotterbeck won the 4x100m Relay in a time of 40.47. Schlotterbeck was also a part of the 4x400m Relay that closed the meeting in a winning time of 3:12.90 with
Jeff Hammond,
Bryce Pepukayi and
Myles Small.
In the high jump, Bell cleared 2.02m (6' 7.5")- to win his second event title of the outdoor season. Bell also leaped 6.57m (21' 6.75") in the long jump.
Drakes led a large contingent of Eagles in the 200m dash, taking third in 21.20, followed by
Solomon Hammond (21.58) and
Rashaun Stewart (21.63).
Jeff Hammond made his first appearance in the 100m dash for Coppin and did not disappoint, taking fourth overall in 10.47, which is tied for the sixth-fastest time in CSU history coming into the season.
Ivan Wiggins-Ingram led the hurdlers by taking third in 53.75, just off his personal record time.
In the 400m dash, Stewart took fifth in 48.36, just ahead of
Daniel Cunningham (48.84) and
Noxroy Wright (48.93).
Randy Serville (49.15),
Bryce Pepukayi (49.54) and
Jeremiah McCowan (51.68) all made their season debuts in the event as well, with McCowan also going 22.40 in the 200m dash in his CSU debut.
Jayeed Norbal and
Amadou Ba led the Navy & Gold in an impressive showing in middle-distance events. Norbal clocked a 1:56.43 in the 800m, followed by
Etiam Torgbenu (1:57.59) and
Asa Francis (1:59.24) who made his Eagles debut. Ba clocked a 4:10.06 in the 1,500m.
Anthony Harris and
Amiri Goode doubled up in the hurdles event, with Harris finishing in 14.74 and 56.83, respectively, while Goode timed in a 15.58 and 58.65. Harris also ran in the 100m dash (11.13).
Schlotterbeck (10.92 & 22.11) and Small (11.22, 22.16) both doubled up in the short sprints as well.
Coppin returns to the track on Saturday, April 22 at the Morgan State Legacy.
