NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Jeff Hammond was named the MEAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. This is the third time that Hammond has received the league's weekly award, and the first time since March 30, 2022.
A senior from Kumasi, Ghana, Hammond set a wind-legal program record in winning the long jump at the South Florida Invitational, leaping a personal-best 7.67 meters (25 feet, 2 inches) over the weekend. Hammond's effort leads the MEAC and ranks 28
th nationally.
Hammond also has a leap of 25 feet, 7.25 inches, which was wind-aided at the Weems Baskin Relays on March 25-26, 2022.
The Eagles return to the track on April 14-15 for the Norfolk State Invitational.
