Brown Leads Bowling to Eighth Place Finish at Stallings Invitational

U8GREENSBORO, N.C. - Logan Brown averaged 189.17 in six games of traditional play to lead a shorthanded Coppin State bowling team to an 8th place finish at the Stallings Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T at AMF All Star Lanes this weekend.
 
To open the tournament, the Eagles started with three wins including an upset over #6 Sam Houston State, 944-922, in match two of the day. The other two victories came against Belmont Abbey and Norfolk State, 920-788 and 858-791, respectively.
 
The Eagles pushed their fourth match to the wire as they led #2 Vanderbilt as they headed into game five of the match. Vanderbilt was able to edge out the Eagles to give Coppin its first loss of the day, 931-904. However, the Eagles were able to bounce back in match five with a win over Florida A&M, 915-818.
 
On Saturday, the Eagles dropped three matches to Lincoln Memorial, North Carolina A&T, and University of Maryland Eastern-Shore. Additionally, they were edged out by Tulane as they lost a heartbreaker, 846-845. The last traditional game was played on Sunday, as the Eagles defeated Howard, 841-743.
 
In traditional play, Kaylah Castillo rolled her weekend high 204 in the opening match against LMU. Brown rolled two games above 200 with a 209 against Tulane and a 226 against UMES. The last game above 200 was rolled by freshman Elizabeth Stokley with a 203 against North Carolina A&T. TaVera Johnson rolled her weekend high in the final match with a solid 197. Additionally, sophomore Janaye Monroe rolled her highest game of 177 in game two against the BYE.
 
On Sunday, the Eagles dropped both of their matches by a score of 4-1 to Lincoln Memorial and FAMU. To pick up their victory against LMU, the Eagles rolled a 204 to best LMU's 181, before dropping the next four games.

As a team, the Lady Eagles had an average first ball of 8.53 in baker matches and 8.44 in traditional matches. In baker matches, the Eagles were led by Logan Brown followed by Janaye Monroe in strike percentage with 41.1% and 38.6% respectively. Senior Kaylah Castillo went a perfect 27 for 27 on single pin spares for the weekend. In traditional games, both Castillo and Brown were 100% on single pin spares followed by Stokley at 83.3%. In traditional matches both Tavera Johnson and Elizabeth Stokley were perfect with 100% leadoff fill percentage.  
 
The Eagles will finish out their season at MEAC Championships on March 24-26 in Virginia Beach, VA at Pinboys at the Beach.
