NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's bowling team finished 1-6 overall at MEAC Meet #2 over the weekend at AMF Norfolk. After the two MEAC Regular Season Tournaments, the Eagles finished 5-9 with 12,020 total pins to finish seventh of eight teams.
CSU dropped its three matches on Friday, first with a tough 952-931 loss to Delaware State before falling to UAB, 917-860, and Morgan State, 978-883. The following day, the Eagles fell to North Carolina A&T and Maryland Eastern Shore before rebounding to rout Norfolk State, 894-707. Howard edged Coppin, 856-835, in the finale.
Individually, Coppin was led by
Shenae Harrison, who averaged a 192.57 in seven traditional-format matches to finish 11
th overall. Opening the Tournament with a 208 against Delaware State, she also rolled a solid 188 against UAB before closing out Friday with a 210 against Morgan State. She closed the weekend with a 193 in the win against the Spartans and a 201 against Howard.
Blessing Lawrence and
Victoria Davis also placed inside the top 20 in 17
th and 19
th, respectively. Lawrence opened the weekend with an impressive 242 against Delaware State and closed the first day with a 197 vs. Morgan State, while Davis also rolled a 206 against the Hornets. Davis also had a great opening match on Saturday with a 235 against North Carolina A&T.
Abigail Brockington's best match of the weekend came against Maryland Eastern Shore where she rolled a team-high 208 while
Shakyia Johnson totaled a 191 against the Spartans.
For the weekend, three Eagles posted overall fill percentages of at least 80%, led by Harrison at 88.6%, followed by Lawrence (81.4) and Davis (80.0). Harrison averaged 19.26 pins per frame with 28 strikes while converting on 84.2% of her makeable spare attempts and 81% across all spare attempts.
The Eagles will compete at the Stallings Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T on February 27 through March 1 at Triad Lanes in Greensboro. Three weeks later, Coppin will be the seventh seed at the MEAC Championships on March 20-22, also at Triad Lanes.
