Men’s Track & Field Takes Fourth at MEAC Indoor Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Amadou Ba won the 800m Run and anchored the 4x400m Relay to gold as Coppin State's men's track & field team took fourth at the MEAC Indoor Championships at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.  The Eagles finished just four points out of third place in the team standings.
 
Ba defended his MEAC crown in the 800m Run, clocking a 1:52.57 to win the event.  Jayeed Norbal also took third in the event in 1:56.23, followed by Randy Serville in sixth (1:56.84). Ba also ran the final leg of the 4x400m Relay that won in 3:14.25 after following Noxroy Wright, Rashaun Stewart and Daniel Cunningham, and the Distance Medley Relay that finished third in 10:19.24 behind Norbal, Ivan Wiggins-Ingram and Cunningham.
 
Wright and James Bell both recorded second-place finishes in the 200m dash and high jump, respectively, with Wright clocking a 21.22 in the 200m, and Bell clearing 6' 8.75 n the high jump. Wright also took fourth in the 60m dash (6.82) while Bell leaped 22' 1.5" in the long jump.
 
Also recording a medal was Jeff Hammond, who took third in the long jump (23' 9.5").
 
Wright also scored in the 60m dash, placing fourth in 6.82, just ahead of Carl Drakes who took seventh in 6.86.  Drakes also finished six in the 200m dash in 21.70.
 
In the heptathlon, Amiri Goode took fourth with 3,966 points, the second-best performance in CSU history. His best efforts came in the 1,000m Run (2:48.93) to score 777 points, the 60m hurdles (8.95) for 757 points and 60m dash (7.61) for 678 points.
 
In the 400m dash, Stewart took fifth in 58.59 while just missing out on the finals in the 200m dash (21.70). Cunningham clocked a 49.23 in the 400m dash, followed by Wiggins-Ingram in 50.93 who also ran an 8.84 in the 60m hurdles.
 
Bryce Pepukayi doubled in the 60m dash (7.04) and 200m dash (21.91) while Cole Schlotterbeck ran a 7.12 in the 60m dash.  Anthony Harris led CSU in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.46.
 
The Eagles are scheduled to compete at the IC4A/ECAC Championships in Boston, Mass., on March 3-5 in the final qualifier before the NCAA Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.
