Wright Wins 60m Dash in Record Time at Fastrack National Qualifier

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Noxroy Wright won the 60m dash in record time while Carl Drakes and James Bell picked up wins as the Coppin State men's track & field team competed at the Fastrack National Qualifier on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Facility.
 
Wright matched a facility record with a time of 6.72 to win the 60m dash, and his time is also tied for the top time in the MEAC this season.  The junior from Kingston, Jamaica edged out Bryan Sosoo, the current record holder who finished in 6.76, and Drakes who took third in 6.77. Former Eagles sprinter Joseph Amoah also ran a 6.72 in the event in 2019.
 
Drakes was impressive in his CSU debut throughout the day, running a 6.80 in the 60m prelims before taking third in the final in 6.77. He also won the 200m dash in 21.36 and ranks third in the MEAC in both events behind Wright and Norfolk State's Kai Cole.
 
Also victorious on the day was Bell, who matched a season-best by clearing 6' 9.0" in the high jump. Bell also competed in the long jump and leaped 21' 0.25," just ahead of Amiri Goode (20' 4.5").
 
Goode had a busy day as he prepared for the multis at the MEAC Championships, clocking an 8.73 in the 60m hurdles and 52.23 in the 400m dash. Ivan Wiggins-Ingram doubled up in the 60m hurdles (8.78) and 400m dash (50.60) while Anthony Harris led CSU in the 60m hurdles (8.48) before running a 7.26 in the 60m dash.
 
Cole Schlotterbeck also finished the 200m dash in 23.15.
 
The Eagles return to the track on February 19-21 for the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
