STATEN ISLAND, N.Y – Several sprinters had impressive season openers as Coppin State's men's track & field team competed at St. John's' Youree Spence-Garcia Meet on Saturday afternoon at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Solomon Hammond won the 60m dash in 6.74, just ahead of
Noxroy Wright who took third in 6.85. Wright won the 300m dash in 33.95 as Eagles earned the top four spots in the event.
Following Wright in the 300m was
Rashaun Stewart (34.01),
Myles Small (35.32) and
Cole Schlotterbeck (35.85).Stewart (7.04), Schlotterbeck (7.12) and Small (7.24) also ran in the 60m dash as well.
Asa Francis took third in the 1,000m Run in 2:33.60, just ahead of
Etiam Torgbenu (2:37.38) and
Andrew Betton took fifth in the 60m hurdles (8.78) with
Amiri Goode finishing just after in 8.96. Goode also competed in the long jump and traveled 20' 2.5."
In the 3,000m Run, freshmen
Humed Nura and
Whisper Shikwa made their collegiate debuts and clocked in at 9:32.60 and 9:49.54, respectively.
Alexander Dobson-Honablue covered the 400m dash in 52.22.
The Eagles will have a month away from competition before racing at the HBCU Showcase in New York, N.Y., on January 13.
