Laila Lawrence Named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Laila Lawrence was named the MEAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. This is the third MEAC weekly award that Lawrence has received this season, and the second time she was recognized as its Defensive Player of the Week.
 
A junior from Lewisville, Texas, Lawrence went off for a season-high 27 points while adding ten rebounds for a double-double and three steals at Binghamton last week.  Lawrence hit 11-of-17 (64.7%) shots from the floor en route to her fifth double-double of the season.
 
Lawrence leads the Eagles in scoring (14.1), rebounding (8.5), field goal percentage (47.9) and blocks (15) while ranking second in steals (17) and fourth in assists (14). She leads the MEAC with six double-doubles to rank 11th nationally while placing second in scoring, rebounding, blocks, field goals made and free throws made and fifth in field goal percentage.
 
Coppin returns to action on Thursday, December 28 when it heads to Duke for a 7 pm tipoff on ACC Network.
