Archey, Winston Receive MEAC Weekly Honors for Performances at Georgetown

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Ryan Archey was named the MEAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week while Justin Winston received Defensive Player of the Week honors, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. This is the first weekly award of Archey's career and the second for Winston.
 
Archey is the second Eagles player to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season, with classmate Camaren Sparrow winning the award twice.
 
A freshman from Clinton, Md., Archey put up 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal, all of which were season-highs, at Georgetown on December 12. Archey made 5-of-9 shots from the floor, including his only 3-point attempt and also hit his lone free throw attempt on the night.
 
For the season, Archey is averaging 5.2 points and 1.9 rebounds along with ten assists and eight steals. Over the last three games, Archey has put up 10.3 points and 4.0 rebounds.
 
Winston notched a double-double against the Hoyas, recording 18 points and 11 rebounds to go with a steal and a block. A redshirt senior from West Orange, N.J., Winston hit 8-of-19 shots from the field with a 3-pointer to help post his league-leading third double-double of the season.
 
Winston leads Coppin in both scoring (13.7) rebounds (5.4) while shooting 40.9% from the floor and 43-of-51 (84.3%) from the line. He currently ranks 9th in the MEAC in scoring, eighth in rebounding, fourth in free throws made and fifth in free throw percentage.
 
Coppin State returns to action on Thursday, December 28 when it travels to face the Maryland Terrapins in a 7 pm tipoff on the B1G Network.
