NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Laila Lawrence has been named the MEAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. This is Lawrence's second weekly award this season after earning Defensive Player of the Week on November 15.
A junior from Lewisville, Texas, Lawrence averaged 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds on 50 percent shooting while adding a pair of assists, three blocks and three steals in two games. Lawrence opened the week with a 16-point, 12 rebounds performance in the Eagles' victory over Pittsburgh – the program's first-ever win against a Power Five program. She added two assists, two steals and a block against the Panthers.
Over the weekend, Lawrence scored a game-high 13 points with six rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
For the season, Lawrence is averaging 14.6 points to rank fourth in the MEAC while leading the league with 8.9 rebounds per game. Lawrence's 51.3 percent field goal percentage is third in the MEAC and she's tied for second in the conference with six blocks.
The Eagles (3-4) play at Kent State on November 29 at 7:00 pm on ESPN+ and will travel to East Carolina for a 2 pm tipoff on December 2.
