SINKING SPRINGS, Pa. – Coppin State's bowling team went 5-4 overall and finished 11
th of 13 teams at the Golden Bear Invitational, hosted by Kutztown University at Berks Lanes over the weekend. The Eagles accumulated 7,869 total pins for a 157.4 average game.
Opening the tournament an impressive 946-838 win over Morgan State behind a 223 from
Taylor Penn and 212 by
Alexandria Madigan, Coppin fell to Mercyhurst before defeating Dominican, 784-640. The Eagles closed out traditional play on Saturday with a tough loss to Alvernia by just ten pins before falling to Chestnut Hill.
Over the five traditional style matches, Coppin was paced by
Victoria Davis with a 167.80 average, followed closely by Madigan at 162.80.
Madison Muckle and Penn finished with 159.40 and 157.80, respectively, while
Shakyia Johnson tallied a 144.40.
Davis averaged a team-high 16.78 per frame with a 72 percent overall fill percentage, 16 strikes and converted on 62.5% of her makeable spar. Madigan put up 16.28 per frame with 15 strikes while Muckle recorded an 8.30 average on first balls and made 60 percent of her makeable spares. Penn was second to Davis in baker style play with a 16.20 average per frame while leading the team in makeable spare conversions.
The Eagles went 2-1 in Baker style matches on Sunday, defeating Kutztown, 801-776 and Bloomfield, 713-706, to close out the day after a loss to nationally ranked Mount St. Mary's and a Bye to start competition.
In bracket play, Coppin defeated Bloomfield, 806-707 in five games to wrap up the weekend.
Coppin will be off next weekend before taking part in the Virginia Union Invitational on November 3-5 at Bowl America Southwest in Midlothian, Va.
