COLUMBIA, S.C. – Noxroy Wright won the 60m dash and took fifth in the 200m dash while
Jeff Hammond took second in the long jump, leading the Coppin State men's track & field team at the Carolina Challenge, hosted by University of South Carolina on Friday and Saturday.
Wright clocked a 6.84 in the prelims before winning the final in 6.79 which is the fourth-fastest in CSU history, and the second fastest in the MEAC this season. On Saturday, Wright ran a blistering 21.30 in the 200m dash to finish fifth overall, good for the top time in the conference this season and the fourth-fastest in CSU history.
Hammond missed the board but still managed to leap 24' 2.25" in the long jump to earn the silver. His mark is tops in the MEAC so far this season.
James Bell and the 4x400m Relay both took fourth in their respective events. Bell cleared 6' 6.75" in the high jump, the third-best in CSU history, while the combo of
Rashaun Stewart,
Daniel Cunningham,
Amadou Ba and
Jayeed Norbal clocked a MEAC-best 3:15.53.
Stewart and Cunningham both scored in the 400m dash with Stewart taking sixth in 49.04, followed by Cunningham in 49.09. Ba also covered the 800m Run in 1:53.14 to finish seventh overall. Also, in the 800m Run, Norbal finished in 1:58.05 with
Randy Serville coming in at 2:00.45.
In other sprints,
Cole Schlotterbeck doubled up in the 60m (7.12) and 200m dash (22.60), with
Anthony Harris running the 60m hurdles in 8.48 and 23.05 in the 200m dash.
Ivan Wiggins-Ingram and
Amiri Goode both competed in the 400m dash and 60m hurdles with Wiggins finishing in 51.64 and 8.93, respectively. Goode came in at 52.01 and 9.05.
Next weekend on January 27-28, the Eagles will take part in the Penn State National Open.
