Wright Leads Men’s Track & Field in Indoor Opener at HBCU Showcase

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Led by Noxroy Wright with a pair of top five finishes, Coppin State's men's track & field team opened the indoor portion of its schedule at the KPMG HBCU Showcase on Saturday at the Armory Track & Field Center. 

Making his CSU debut, Wright opened the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 60m dash in 6.89, just after running a 6.90 in the prelims.  Later, Wright took the silver in the 400m dash in 49.73. Wright also ran a leg of the 4x400m Relay that placed sixth in 3:22.73 along with Rashaun Stewart, Jeff Hammond and Amadou Ba.

Ba and Jayeed Norbal both finished in the top five in the 500m dash, with Norbal leading the duo with a third-place performance in 1:05.00.  Ba clocked a 1:05.06 to take fifth.

Also medaling for the Eagles was James Bell in the high jump.  Also making his CSU debut, Bell finished third, clearing 6'7.5." Bell also competed in the long jump where he leaped 20'5", just behind Hammond at 21' 6."

In the short sprints, freshman Cole Schlotterbeck doubled up to run a 7.12 in the 60m dash and 22.80 in the 200m dash. Anthony Harris led a trio of Eagles in the 60m hurdles (8.71), followed by Amiri Goode (9.14) and Ivan Wiggins-Ingram (9.42). Wiggins-Ingram also competed in the 400m dash (53.22).

Coppin returns to the track on Saturday, January 21 at the Carolina Challenge, hosted by University of South Carolina.
