BALTIMORE – Coppin State's women's basketball team, under the leadership of first-year head coach
Jermaine Woods, revealed its 2022-23 season schedule on Tuesday morning. Highlights of the docket include three non-conference home games, including the season opener against Pittsburgh as well as Georgetown nine days later.
"I believe we have put together a competitive non-conference schedule that will challenge and prepare us for the rigors of conference play," said Woods. "We will play teams from various conferences with different playing styles. The MEAC will be extremely competitive and we look forward to getting healthy and competing."
The Eagles open the campaign with the Panthers on November 7 before hitting the Carolinas for back-to-back games against Charlotte (November 11) and Winthrop (November 13). Coppin returns home for a pair when they welcome the Hoyas to PEC Arena for Baltimore Public Schools Day in a special 11:00 am tipoff.
Saint Peter's also visits the Charm City on November 20 before the Eagles embark on a ten-game road trip to close out non-conference play. Two days after hosting the Peacocks, Coppin opens the long swing with Rhode Island on November 22 before visiting Woods' Tidewater Region for games against Old Dominion (November 27) and William & Mary (December 4). Sandwiched between the pair of games in the Tidewater is a trip to Buies Creek, N.C. to face Campbell on December 1.
As part of the MEAC Alliance Agreement with Syracuse, the Eagles will play the Orange at JMA Wireless Dome on December 8 before Coppin plays at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pa., on December 11.
Coppin visits the DC area for a couple games, starting with George Mason on December 17 and George Washington on December 22 before a Midwest trip to Akron (December 29) and Kent State (December 31) to close out con-conference play.
CSU opens MEAC play with four-straight home games, starting with South Carolina State on January 7, before hosting North Carolina Central (Jan. 9), archrival Morgan State (Jan. 14) and Norfolk State (Jan. 21). Delaware State comes to town on January 30 and Homecoming is set for February 18 against Howard.
A week after Homecoming, Coppin gets Maryland Eastern Shore on February 25 for Senior Day.
The MEAC Tournament will once again be held at Norfolk Scope Arena, starting on March 8 and wrapping up on March 11.
Coppin finished last season with a 15-13 overall record, recording its first winning season in nearly a decade and tallying a school-record six victories against non-conference Division I opponents. Graduate student, and Baltimore native,
Jaia Alexander returns for the Eagles this season after being named the 2022 MEAC Player of the Year.
