Volleyball Drops Home Opener to Loyola Maryland, 3-1

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's volleyball team got numerous historic efforts, but it was not enough as the Eagles fell to Loyola University Maryland, 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-17) on Tuesday night at PEC Arena.  Both teams now stand at 2-2 on the season.

Inside the Numbers
  • Hope Casel tallied a career-high 16 kills while hitting .195 on a team-high 41 swings.
  • Miajavon Coleman notched her fourth-straight double-double to open the season, recording 14 kills without an error to hit .400.  Coleman added 15 digs and a pair of blocks on the defensive end.
  • Geraldyn Palacios was credited with a whopping ten total blocks as the Eagles out blocked the Greyhounds, 13.0 to 7.0 on the night.  Her ten blocks were the most by a CSU player since September 13, 2014, when Kendra Ireigbe put up ten blocks against Eastern Michigan. Palacios added six kills on 15 swings.

  • Andrea Tsvetanova posted her third double-double of the season, tallying 40 assists and 14 digs to go with five blocks. With her 40 assists, she became just the eighth CSU player to record at least 1,000 career assists with 1,008.
  • Ammaarah Williams chipped in with seven kills and three blocks and Yaniris Miller-Green added a pair of kills and five blocks.
  • Kennedy Beatty served up a pair of aces.

  • Loyola responded with a kill, but Coppin answered with three-straight points and closed the set on a 4-0 run with Palacios and Miller-Green sealing it with a block.
Second Set
  • The Greyhounds by as many as 11-5 but Coppin battled back to a single point four different times.
  • Back-to-back kills towards the end cut the score to 24-23 in favor of Loyola, prompting a Greyhounds timeout.
  • Loyola finished the set with a kill.
Third Set
  • Coppin held an early lead thanks to a pair of blocks from the duo of Palacios and Miller-Green, but a 4-0 Greyhounds run gave the visitors the outright lead.
  • Casel recorded a kill out of the timeout to make it a 9-7 deficit but that was as close as the Eagles got the rest of the set.
Fourth Set
