GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miajavon Coleman posted a pair of double-doubles as the Coppin State volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the Aggie-Spartan Invitational. The Eagles were unable to finish off UNC Greensboro and fell, 3-2 (18-25, 25-16, 17-25, 26-24, 16-14) to open the day before defeating Bethune-Cookman, 3-1 (25-16, 27-29, 25-15, 25-18) later in the afternoon.
Coppin State 2, UNC Greensboro 3
Miajavon Coleman tallied 17 kills with just two errors on 50 swings to hit .300 for the match while adding 11 digs and a career-high six blocks. A senior from San Antonio, Texas, Coleman moved into ninth place on the school's all-time blocks list, passing her former assistant coach
Christina Epps.
Hope Casel also finished in double figures in kills, smacking what was then a career-high 12 on .233 hitting along with five digs.
Ammaarah Williams and
Yaniris Miller-Green combined for 17 kills while blocking four shots apiece.
Geraldyn Palacios matched Coleman with six blocks.
Andrea Tsvetanova also posted a double-double, tallying 42 assists and ten digs while serving up four aces.
Ashley Roman led the Eagles with 18 digs while
Gabi Theut chipped in with ten and
Kennedy Beatty added eight.
CSU outhit UNC Greensboro, .152 to .125, hitting .172 in the first set and .400 in the third to pick up wins. The Spartans hit .000 in the opening set and .212 in the third before edging the Eagles in the fourth and fifth sets.

Miajavon Coleman hit .282 with 13 kills on 39 swings to go with 12 digs to notch her third double-double in as many matches while
Hope Casel led the Eagles with a career-high 14 kills.
Ammaarah Williams hit a whopping .308 with 12 kills and
Geraldyn Palacios added eight more while matching
Andrea Tsvetanova with four blocks. Tsvetanova finished a dig shy of a double-double, assisting on 45 kills while serving five aces.
Ashley Roman once again led the squad with 19 digs while
Gabi Theut and
Kennedy Beatty chipped in six apiece. Theut also added a pair of aces on the offensive end.
CSU outhit Bethune-Cookman, .208 to .127 which included a dominating .382 percentage in the third set.
Up Next: The Eagles return to Baltimore where they will welcome crosstown rival Loyola Maryland in a 6 pm start on Tuesday, August 30. Three days later, Coppin will head to the Virginia Tech Invitational to play the Hokies, Old Dominion and Marist.
