JANAYE MONROE TO CSU

Bowling Finalizes 2022-23 Roster with Addition of Janaye Monroe

| By:
BALTIMORE – Coppin State bowling head coach Shaunita Middleton has announced the addition of Janaye Monroe to the Eagles roster for the 2022-23 season. A native of nearby Bowie, Md., Monroe competed at Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina the last two seasons.

"Janaye will be a great addition to our program and the team has welcomed her already," said Middleton.  "She's very eager to get on the lanes and take in the knowledge she knows will enhance and help excel her game.  We're looking for Janaye to come in and make an immediate impact as a leader on and off the lanes."

Monroe was a Dean's List student and attended Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, Md., where she was also a member of the National Honor Society. At Belmont Abbey, she was also a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success Belmont chapter. Monroe placed eighth at the 2022 Southeastern Shootout in Anderson, N.C., leading the Crusaders to a fourth place finish.

"What drew me to Coppin State was my talks with Coach Middleton and the transparency within the bowling program and the university," commented Monroe.  "I am excited to join the bowling program.  Bowling is my passion, and to share it with others that have the same passion and drive is going to be a dynamic space that I want to be and grow in.  I can't wait for the memories me, and my teammates will create and share.  Our experiences together, not only on the lanes, but off the lanes, will allow us to be better individuals and learn from all that we have accomplished and went through together.  I know I will be in good hands and Coppin will prepare me for life after college as I grow into an adult.  I am looking forward to the HBCU experience, sisterhood/lifelong friendships, and attaining more knowledge as I transition into the medical field."

Monroe finalizes a recruiting class which also features freshmen Xiani Carpenter (Bowie, Md.) and Elizabeth Stokley (Elizabeth City, N.C.).  The trio of newcomers will join all six members of last year's squad, led by junior Logan Brown, graduate student Kaylah Castillo and sophomore TaVera Johnson.

"The coaching staff and I are very excited about the recruiting class we have added to this puzzle," added Middleton.  "The game and focus of Janaye, nor any of the other ladies on the team, is not to be taken lightly because they are putting in the work and ready to shake things up."
