Ba wins 800m at MEAC Championship

Manu, Ba, 4x400m Relay Victorious for Men’s Track & Field at Morgan State Legacy

BALTIMORE – Joseph Manu and Amadou Ba won individual events and Ba also led the 4x400m Relay to gold to lead the Coppin State men's track & field team at the Morgan State Legacy on Saturday afternoon.
 
Manu won the 200m dash in 21.11, edging teammate Mauriel Carty (21.14) in the process, while also taking second to former CSU standout Joseph Amoah in the 100m dash in a personal-record (wind-legal) 10.22.  Manu and Carty ran the final two legs of the 4x100m Relay that competed for the first time this season and took fourth in 41.75 along with Bryce Pepukayi and Jeff Hammond.
 
Ba took first in the 800m Run in 1:52.37 and led off the 4x400m Relay which finished first in 3:17.44.  Following Ba was Abayie Opuni, Jayeed Norbal and Carty. The 'B' Relay of Jervonne Agard, Ivan Wiggins, Pepukayi and Amiri Goode finished in 3:24.52.
 
Opuni and Hammond earned the silver in their respective individual events with Opuni clocking a 48.20 in the 400m dash while Jeff Hammond leaped 7.52m in the long jump.  Hammond stood in first place in the event after his lone attempt before passing on the remaining five. His jump was matched on the final attempt by MSU's Kobe-Jordan Rhooms which gave him the victory by virtue of his second longest attempt.
 
Norbal clocked a personal record in the 800m Run with a time of 1:58.47 while Goode (57.26) and Cheyenne Johnson (58.74) placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 400m hurdles. Wiggins also clocked a 1:00.01 in the long hurdles.
 
Pepukayi doubled up in the 100m dash (10.99) and 200m dash (22.19) with Carty narrowly besting him in the 100m dash in 10.93. Agard also covered the 400m dash in 51.28.
 
The Eagles will compete at the Penn Relays on April 28-30, held at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
