NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Jeff Hammond has been named the MEAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday morning. This is the second weekly honor that Hammond has received this year, and the first this outdoor season.
A sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, Hammond won the long jump at South Carolina's Weems Baskin Invitation with a school-record leap of 25' 7.25." Hammond's jump would have placed him ninth in the Nation had it not been wind-aided, while his second-best attempt traveled 24' 2.25, which still leads the MEAC.
Hammond and the Eagles return to the track this weekend for the Towson Invitational on April 1-2.
