Manu Matches Own School-Record in 60m Dash as Men’s Track Sends Squads to Virginia Beach & Boston

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Joseph Manu won the 60m dash and took third in the 200m dash at the East Coast Invitational to lead the Coppin State men's track & field team who sent squads to both Virginia Beach and the Boston University Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday.
 
Manu matched his own school-record in the 60m dash, clocking a 6.66 in the finals to take home the gold.  A native of Accra, Ghana, Manu also took bronze in the 200m dash in 21.37 with Mauriel Carty taking sixth in the event in 22.17.
 
Jeff Hammond also earned the silver in the long jump (23' 11.75) while Balvin Richards tossed the shot put 47' 3.0" to take the bronze.
 
Bryce Pepukayi doubled in the 60m dash (7.30) and 200m dash (22.70).
 
In Boston, Abayie Opuni took third overall in the 400m dash in 47.30, recording the third-fastest time in CSU history. 
 
In the 800m Run, Amadou Ba finished in an impressive 1:51.70 with Randy Serville clocking a 1:53.85.  Ivan Wiggins crossed the finish of the 500m dash in 1:08.56.
 
Also competing in the 400m dash were Jervonne Agard (50.42) and Amiri Goode (52.13).
 
CSU closes out the indoor portion of its schedule at the Kenneth Giles NSU Invitational on February 11 before the MEAC Championships on February 21-23 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. The top 16 student-athletes nationally in individual events, and top 12 relays, will qualify for the NCAA National Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on March 11-12.
