Brown Leads Bowling to 12th Place Finish at Stallings Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Logan Brown averaged a 184.20 in traditional play to lead the Coppin State bowling team to a 12th place finish at the Stallings Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T at Triad Lanes this weekend.  The Eagles totaled 8,147 pins to average 162.9 per game for the Tournament.
 
Coppin faced a tough draw in Baker play on Friday, facing the likes of nationally ranked Vanderbilt and the host Aggies.  The Eagles fell to the Commodores, 924-841 to open the day before falling to Florida A&M, Tusculum, and North Carolina A&T before defeating Howard, 802-685 to wrap up the day.
 
In traditional matches on Saturday, Coppin opened and closed the day with an 815-803 win over Belmont Abbey and a 907-830 victory against Norfolk State.  The Navy & Gold were bested by MEAC rivals and nationally ranked foes Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State before posting a 784 in its positional round.
 
A sophomore from Waldorf, Md., Brown posted a 201 against Belmont Abbey and a 217 against Norfolk State while rolling a 196 against Delaware State and 180 in the Bye.  Brown totaled 921 pins in her five traditional matches with an 18.42 average per frame and 36 percent strike percentage.
 
Kaylah Castillo finished with 815 total pins to average a 163.00, rolling a high of 190 against UMES.  Castillo converted on 90.9% of her single pin spare attempts and 69.6% of her makeable conversions.
 
Jalyne Myers was third on the squad with a 160.20 average, tallying a high of 182 against Delaware State.  TaVera Johnson accumulated a 153.80 average while Temira White recorded a 151.25 average, boosted by a 202 against Norfolk State.
 
In her lone match of the weekend, Alexia Alston rolled a 150 against Delaware State.
 
Coppin returns to the lanes for the TNBA HBCU Invitational on March 4-6 at Fun Time Bowl in Atlanta, Ga.
