PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Coppin State's men's basketball team fell to Maryland Eastern Shore, 70-50 on Saturday afternoon at Hytche Arena. The Eagles are now 6-21 on the season, while UMES advances to 10-13. Both teams are now tied for sixth in the MEAC with a 5-7 conference record.
Mike Hood was the leading score for the Eagles for the second straight game, finishing with 12 points, along with two assists. Kyle Cardaci hit three 3-pointers for the night, as Nendah Tarke led the team on the glass with five boards to go with six points and three assists.
Alex Rojas had an efficient game with eight points, as Daniel Titus contributed five points while Greg Spurlock and Justin Steers had four points apiece.
Hood scored half of the Eagles points in the first half, in response to a 7-0 Hawks run to start the game off. After a three from Hood, UMES embarked on another run to take a double-digit lead. Cardaci drained a three to conclude the first half, as the Hawks led 33-16 going into the break.
Steers started the second half off with a pair of layups before another three from Cardaci. Coppin's bench scored 19 of 34 points in the second half, led by Rojas with eight.
The Eagles attempted to make a comeback run with a layup from Spurlock and a three from Rojas but it was not enough to bring them back from a 20-point deficit.
Coppin will conclude its season with a pair of home games versus Delaware State on Monday, February 28 before hosting crosstown rivals Morgan State Bears on Thursday, March 3 for Senior Night.
