BALTIMORE – Sita Conteh led four Eagles in double figures as the Coppin State men's basketball team pulled away to defeat Delaware State, 80-67, on Monday night at PEC Arena. With the win, the Eagles improve to 6-7 in the MEAC while the Hornets fall to 0-13.
A redshirt senior from the Bronx, N.Y., Conteh buried six 3-pointers for 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Coppin offensively.
Mike Hood added 16 points off the bench,
Kyle Cardaci hit three 3-pointers for 14 points and
Nendah Tarke once again filled the sheet with 13 points, ten rebounds, six steals and five assists.
Coppin outshot Delaware State, 44.6% to 37.5% and hit an impressive 14-of-35 (40.0%) from 3-point range.
CSU rallied from a 22-9 deficit with 9:56 left in the first half and went on a 16-3 run over the next 4:26 to take a 25-24 lead.
Daniel Titus started the run with a 3-point play, followed by a three from Tarke. Conteh added two more triples during the run, along with another triple from Tarke before a free throw from Conteh.
Delaware State regained the lead but
Isaiah Gross hit a jumper with just under a minute left, giving the Eagles a 32-29 halftime lead.
The Hornets pulled within two with an early free throw to start the second half but the Eagles controlled the tempo throughout the rest of the game. Coppin pulled away from the visitors with a 13-2 run that encompassed nearly four minutes with Hood converting for six points during the stretch.
